Launching today - New desktop for QMU

By Megan 06 Sep 2018

QMU’s IT team has been busy of the summer preparing a new desktop platform to provide our students with a significantly improved service.

The desktop goes live on 7th September, and will improve the learning experience for students on campus and those who want to work remotely.

With the new ‘Horizon’ desktop, students can expect all the standard software they are already used to, as well as some new useful applications.

QMU’s Student President, Stewart Sands, has been an integral part of the group overseeing the advances, and has provided invaluable input to ensure that our students’ views and requirements are fully taken into account in the new desktop environment.

You said, We listened, We did!

As partof QMU’s commitment to continuously improving the student experience:

YOU SAID: “We want a browser other than Internet Explorer”

WE DID: We have updated the system to include Chrome as part of your standard desktop. This will open up lots of new opportunities for you to explore.

YOU SAID: “We need the system to be much more stable and reliable.”

WE DID: The new ‘Horizon’ desktop is built upon the latest technology platform, which exploits some of the other improvements that we have been deploying over the past year. In short, this means that you can now enjoy a more stable, reliable and improved IT service.

And there’s more!

Above are just a couple of the improvements that the new Horizon’s desktop will bring to your user experience. You will notice more benefits/improvements once you try out the new desktop.

We’ll continue listening so we can keep improving.

Once you settle back into student life and have a chance to try out the new desktop, we welcome your suggestions on ways we can continue to improve the desktop and our IT service.

We welcome you back to QMU and wish you well in your studies for the year ahead.
