A cringe free guide to making friends at Uni

By ResLifeAshleigh 03 Jan 2019

The holidays are over and it's time to go back to Uni. Some of you may be feeling excited to see all of your friends and flatmates, but for some this could be an anxious time.

But not to worry! I've been there and I am here to give you some advice and tips.

Get involved in the group chat

Have a nosey at what other people are doing in your block. You could even organise a game or movie night!

Make sure you attend the Refreshers fair!

Refreshers is happening over at The Union on Tuesday 23rd January 11am-3pm. Grab yourself some free pizza, join a society or sports club, get some free pizza, ok fine... just go for the free pizza.

Make some homemade meals or treats for you and your flatmates!

This is a great way to break the ice! It is an easy and subtle way to make a conversation and build friendships, especially when Bake Off starts again!

Make sure you are cleaning up after yourself

Avoid the drama, confrontation and arguments that comes from your flat being messy! Make sure you are cleaning up your own mess to stay in the clear!

"Does anyone want a brew?"

You're in Manchester... everybody wants a brew. If you're not familiar, a brew is a northern way of saying 'cup of tea'. Your flatmate agreements should already include how everyone has their hot drinks, so you don't even need to ask how!

If you are finding it tough to settle in and connect with others at Uni, you can speak to your Residential Advisor who is available from 6pm-6am every night.
