5 questions with... RA Sinmi
While our recruitment is open for Residential Advisors for 2019/20, we have asked some of our current RAs about their experiences as an RA this year...
In this edition of 5 questions, we are talking to Sinmi, a 2nd Year Philosophy and Sociology student and is an RA at Liberty Central...

What attracted you to become a Residential Advisor when you applied?
I am really passionate about ensuring that everyone has the best education experience as possible and living in halls is a huge part of that. I loved the idea of working as part of a team to help make students university life the best it could be.
What is your favourite thing about the job?
My favourite thing about my job is knowing that I can be a huge point of support for students. I also love the fact that you work as part of a team so you’re never truly alone.
How did you find the assessment day and what advice can you give to applicants?
The assessment day was interesting - a long process but I did enjoy it. We had to complete group work, present to a bigger group and do role plays in pairs. I then had an interview a couple of days after. My advice would be; just be yourself and don't over think things!
Can you tell us about the piece of training you have received to date, which has had the most impact for you?
I’ve received so much training since being successful in my application but the one that’s had the most impact is definitely SAGE and THYME which is a set of guidelines that one can use when having difficult or emotional conversations. This can be used not only just in work settings but also everyday conversations with everyone.
Why should people apply to be a Residential Advisor?
The role allows you to not only make a difference in other students lives but the skills and experience you get really enhance your own university experience. Working as part of a team towards a collective goal is really rewarding.
Applications are still open for the academic year 2019/20 and close at 23:59 on Sunday 13th January 2019.
