If you're going to be living at Greenbank Student Village then you'll be starting to think about how you're going to travel in to the University Campus. Greenbank Halls are approximately 3.5 miles from the University Campus/City Centre and students are discouraged from driving as parking is very limited, plus we'd like to encourage more eco-friendly ways of getting around! Walking takes around an hour but most students will take the bus or cycle.
Getting the bus
The 699 runs between Greenbank and the University Campus. The journey usually takes between 15 - 20 minutes depending on the time of day. Smithdown Road is also just a five minute walk away from Greenbank and there's plenty of very regular bus services running between there and the City Centre.
If you're going to be using the bus as your main way of getting to and from University we would recommend you get a Student Saver ticket. Liverpool Guild of Students are offering an exclusively discounted rate if you come into the Guild shop in person and buy a pass when you arrive - you can learn more about this here. This will save you up £55 across the year but is only available in person from the Guild; this discount cannot be obtained directly from Arriva. You can also download the handy MerseyTravel Journey Planner here.

It takes around 20 minutes to cycle to campus from Greenbank and there are cycle lanes, bus lanes and scenic routes through Liverpool's lovely parks. During Welcome Week you will have the opportunity to sign up for a Bike Tour which will show you the safest and most picturesque route from Halls to university.
If you are planning on using the CityBike scheme and renting a bike, University of Liverpool students get 50% off the annual registration of £50 making it just £25 for unlimited use for a year. To get this you need to register online here and use the discount code: CB/LIV/C/017. There is a CityBike bank right outside Greenbank so you will easily be able to use these to get around the city.
We also have the BiKiosk in the Guild where you can get expert advice and repairs for any issues you're having with your bike.
There is plentiful bike storage at Greenbank and you can get access to these when you arrive.
On Campus we have secure cycle storage units / Bike Pods which are free to use. For access to a bike pod, you will need to register your University card on the Ground floor of Bedford House, once this is done your card will then allow you swipe access to the pods. You can see all campus cycle storage locations on the campus map. The team from Bedford House will also have a stand at the Guild Welcome Fair to discuss protecting your bike and getting it registered with the Immobilise service.
