BLOG: How to survive exam season!

By CallyBlogger 12 Apr 2018

University exam season is tough...

There will be times when you want to rip your hair out or stumble into the kitchen zombie-eyed at 4am, but the good grades are worth it!

Here are some tricks to help you survive exam season:

  1. A good diet
Small changes like swapping Red Bull for green tea can make a big difference. It’s healthier and gives you a slow release of energy during the day. Caffeine isn’t the only way to get a brain boost, salmon is great as it has lots of Omega 3 fats. Omega 3 fats reduce brain inflammation and help with stress. Consider it 'enhancing your brain' whilst getting a healthy meal - two birds, one stone.

  2. Nap!
If long revision sessions aren’t your cup of tea, or if you simply can’t hack it, take a nap! Napping for a short time of 20-25 minutes ensures that you don’t fall into deep sleep, making it the optimum time to regain alertness and energy. Plus, what better way to ‘procrastinate’ than by lying in bed?

  3. Have YOU time
Still feeling stressed? Remember to take time out for yourself. Spend a few hours a day focusing on things you enjoy, like watching Netflix, hanging out with your friends - you’ll need it after spending so much time cooped up in your room! Friends are a great way to distract you, just make sure you don’t get too distracted.

  4. Mix up your revision space
On that note, remember that your room doesn't have to be the only place you revise, there are lots of places to study on campus. Try revising in the library or booking a study room to revise with course mates - this will make exam prep feel less of a chore and more of an 'activity'. Believe it or not, revision doesn’t have to be a snooze.

  5. Get out and exercise
Oxygen really is your best friend! It stimulates the brain, making you more awake and ready to tackle those exams. You could take a walk, run around campus, go out for a bike ride or even just take the long route to your lectures. This way, you get some exercise in whilst waking up your brain.

And that’s how you can survive exam season! These tips work great for me and makes exam season that little bit more bearable.
