House hunting: What are your options?
If you're heading into second year and are moving out of halls, there are various options you can look at...
Private student-only accommodation
Similar to halls, student-only accommodation is run by private companies. They're available to anyone studying in Edinburgh and offer utilities and internet all in the same bill.
Although student-only accommodation is convenient and can even be done online, if you're looking to have a different experience than halls, Private Rented Accommodation might be worth looking into.
Private Rented Accommodation
Want to share a house with your mates? Looking for a one bed flat for yourself? In Edinburgh, there is plenty of rented accommodation to choose between.
Just remember, this will have to be organised by yourself and you usually have to pay your rent and bills separately. It's vital to take your time with this process to make sure you find something that's right for you. You can check out our basics guide to private rented accommodation here.
A number of householders across Edinburgh let out rooms (lodgings) in their home to students.
As lodgings are not vetted by the university, it's very important that you make arrangements to view the properties and meet the landlord to discuss terms before signing any lease and exchange any money.
You can find Student lodgings on the Studentpad website. To search for lodgings in Edinburgh please select the 'Resident Landlord/Host Family' option from the living arrangements search criteria.
Choosing where to live next year is a big decision and one you'll want to take time over. Never rush into something if you're not sure it's right for you, you're going to be living there for the next year after all!
