Feeling hungry? Try these places out
Thinking of treating yourself to a tasty meal after a long day at uni?
Well, Edinburgh has plenty to offer. If you want somewhere that is great value for money, tasty AND healthy, then you've got 8 of the best places below!
Union Of Genius
This hidden little gem is the perfect spot for quick, healthy and hearty lunch. The formula is simple - 6 different soups and 2 salads on the menu which change every day, all served with a slice of delicious bread… what’s not to love?
Roots Deli & Salad Bar
I guess the clue is in the name with this one. A friendly little joint with a fantastic salad bar, warming soups and delicious vegan treats! Also offers a great range of healthy breakfasts to keep you going through your morning lectures.
The Old School Cafe
If you can find this place we would highly recommend it! A little cafe within the Canongate Youth social enterprise which gives young people the chance to develop their skills in hospitality whilst giving the community a welcoming and affordable space to enjoy some delicious food.
Ok so not the healthiest and not the cheapest but we couldn’t leave this off the list... Who doesn’t love pizza?? A build your own pizza counter with options galore including gluten free and veggie. £5.95 for a ‘Lunch Sized Pizza’ and £9.95 for a regular pizza.. Worth every penny!
Ting Thai Caravan
This place is so on trend it almost hurts… casual South East Asian street food at it’s best. No pretence just delicious soups, rice and noodles served quickly and at reasonable prices! Always busy so plan ahead and get there early.
The Nile Valley Cafe
Nestled in the heart of student land this little spot offers you the chance to branch out and try something new! Serving a variety of Middle Eastern cuisine from delicious wraps at lunch through to hearty Fish Curries. It’s BYOB as well so a great place to start your evening!
No list is complete without the nation’s favourite cuisine and I couldn’t think of anywhere better to represent this. Queue up with your disposable plates and cutlery; fill said plate to breaking point with delicious curry (and sides) of your choosing; pay a laughably small amount of money and enjoy. Simple really.

Mosque Kitchen 😍 This Edinburgh institution is authentic, tasty, and cheap. Post 9/11, Mosque Kitchen decided to open its doors to the public, in a show of community openness and spirit. This is one of the reasons why I love this place! Plus, the food is excellent. * * * * * * * #mosquekitchen #local #supportlocal #spices #biryani #roganjosh #tikka #naan #edinburghfood #foodie #cheapeats #cafeteriastyle #buffet #raita #foodgasm #instafood #localhangout #newington #edinburghfoodie #foodblogger #foodbloggers #hungry #weateitall
